With David Rives and guest, Paul Taylor
David Rives sent me a complimentary copy of this DVD because I’ve been helping his ministry get their Creation Club off the ground. Be sure to check them out! It’s a great place to get to know a number of us young/developing/independent creation writers and it’s been a joy providing them with content.
It’s also a joy to let you know about this new DVD.
This edition of the Wonders Without Number series is an interview with Paul Taylor, picking his brain about how we can know God meant just one normal week for creation.
I’d learned about Paul Taylor several years ago when the Creation Today Show first got started with Eric Hovind and Taylor as cohost. At the time, I barely know there other creationists out there besides Ken Ham and ICR. It was amazing to be introduced to one independent speaker after another. I was most impressed with Paul Taylor’s clear thinking and gentlemanly manner.
These abilities were on full display in this DVD!
David Rives has been extra exciting to get to know. I ran into his facebook page right when I started my own two years ago. All I knew was he was a singer and had some amazing space photos taken with his own telescope equipment.
Soon he was interviewed on the Creation Today Show and I learned more about how he travels around telling churches about creation and sharing his music. What was extra delightful was watching him interview Eric Hovind during his own first season hosting Creation in the 21st Century on TBN.
So, what’s the DVD like?
I made sure all my kids were in the room when I started watching, but the little ones drifted away as soon as the highly visual opening sequence finished up. My 9 and 10 year olds stayed focused for about 10 minutes before losing interest.
That is, except for when Paul Taylor showed what Bible would look like if we used the same reasoning some do for Genesis 1.
Here’s the idea: many people say, ‘well, you can’t take the days of Creation Week literally because a thousand years are as one day with God.’ But they don’t try to stretch other, similarly recorded days in the Old Testament.
If Joshua was marching around Jericho for seven days just like God filled the earth (according to their thinking), he still has 3 ½ thousand years to go. And if Jonah spent three days in the whale in the same way, he’s still in there, too!
This line of thinking makes for some funny cartoons!
There were a number of other points it will be helpful to know when listening to old earth creationists. Since Paul Taylor has worked with Answers in Genesis and written quite a lot over the years, you can find his ideas in a number of places. His points make a clear and strong case for reading the first chapter of the Bible as meaning exactly what it says. Any claim for it being figurative or “just poetry” cannot be supported by the text.
If you have taken the time to search out what the big creation websites have to say about the “days” of Genesis 1, you could get by without this DVD.
But,
- If you aren’t sure yourself
- have friends who don’t know enough to make up their mind
- or know people who are well meaning in their acceptance of 1 Day = 1 Age,
this DVD would be a blessing. You couldn’t have nicer, more genteel, yet brainy speakers. And the presentation is professional and attractive in every way. Plus, at just about a half hour, it’s a good length to watch in one sitting without your eyes glazing over.
For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Exodus 20:11
PS While searching for links to plug in, I ran into this interview Rives and Taylor did on the same topic for the Creation in the 21st Century show. You can check it out HERE.
